Y4-6 focus is: Storytelling, Devised Theatre, and Introduction to Scripts

In this class students are encouraged to explore their imagination to the fullest whilst developing voice, movement, character, and stagecraft skills. Every week they build their confidence and creative expression whilst developing their performance skills in improvisation, devising (performance creation), and retelling of stories.

Course components

• Investigating character and stories through improvisation
• Working as an ensemble, collaborating with others
• Using your voice and body - diction, projection, body awareness
• Questioning of creative content; the big, the small, the why and the how
• Discovering the elements of play building
• Investigating character and relationships, situation, voice, movement, space and time, language and texts
• Scene work- understanding the scene, becoming a character, working with a scene partner, staging a scene, taking direction
• Turning a text into a performance and creating a performance from scratch

No experience necessary.

Class Details

DAY:        ………..……5-6pm, Tuesdays, one class a week

LOCATION: ………..St Ives - Community Centre, Off Memorial Avenue, St Ives (behind St Ives Shopping Village). Street parking available in Memorial Avenue, or at St Ives Shopping Village.

TRIAL CLASSES: Available for the first 3 weeks of term. 

2025 MSTYP Semester 2 dates

Term 3: Tuesday 29th July - Tuesday 16th September (8 classes)

Term 4: Tuesday 21st October - Tuesday 9th December (8 classes)

End of Year Showcase: Saturday 13th December 

End of Year Showcase

MSTYP will be bringing together all of our drama classes for an end of year sharing to showcase our wonderful young people!

Date: Saturday 13th December

Location: Ku-Ring-Gai Town Hall, 1186 Pacific Highway, Pymble

Time: 4:45pm - 6:15pm

Performers are to meet their teaching artist at 4:30pm outside the hall and be escorted to the dressing rooms.

Not available at this time? Don't worry! You can still enrol - our experienced Teaching Artists will ensure your young person will build the skills ready to perform, even though they won't be present for the actual performance, and performance preparation will only take up a small portion of the class.
